Mariah included a cover of this traditional song on her 1994 album Merry Christmas. “I had been thinking of doing an uptempo version of ‘Joy To The World,’ ” Mariah said on Good Morning America. “I thought it would be really interesting to have a like a choir feel, but more of a Gospel kind of an edge while still doing the song, the melody that exists.’
The David Morales remixes of “Joy To The World” featured new vocals and were initially only released in Australia. They were later included on the Deluxe Anniversary Edition of the Merry Christmas album, released in 2019, and on a digital “Joy To The World” EP, released on October 22, 2021.

The Celebration Mix video of “Joy To The World” was filmed in late 1995 and features home video footage of Mariah's promotional tours across Europe.
“Joy To The World” saw a commercial release in Australia. Available on CD and cassette, the Maxi Single includes the album version of “Joy To The World,” three remixes of the song produced by David Morales, and the album version of “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
