Mariah first appeared on Oprah on February 14, 1992 alongside Amy Grant and Aaron Neville. She performed “Vision Of Love” and “If It's Over.”
Mariah's second appearance on Oprah took place on November 12, 1997. She discussed new new album, her life as a single woman and performed “Hero” and “Butterfly.”
Mariah visited the Oprah show alongside Whitney Houston on November 25, 1998. Mariah performed “I Still Believe” and joined Whitney for a performance of their duet, “When You Believe.”
Mariah presented her Rainbow album on the Oprah show on December 7, 1999. She opened the show with the “Heartbreaker” remix, alongside Da Brat and Missy Elliott, and was joined by her mother, Patricia, to talk about the discrimination their interracial family had experienced. Mariah closed the show with a performance of “Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme).”
Mariah performed “Through The Rain” and “My Saving Grace” on the December 3, 2002 episode of the Oprah show.
Mariah joined Oprah's wildest dream team to surprise a very special boy whose biggest wish was to sing on Oprah's stage. Lina Robbins (formerly known as Paul) met Mariah and Randy Jackson, who coached her on some of the basics for her worldwide television debut. Lina blew the audience away with her rendition of Mariah's “Hero.” Verity Records offered Lina a contract to record a song written and produced by Mariah especially for her.
“I tried to morph myself into the mindset of a kid like [Lina],” Mariah said. “I just hope that people who hear it enjoy it and sense the pure heart that she has when she sings. I feel like that's gonna shine through.”
Oprah invited Lina Robbins back to perform the song “I Pray,” written by Mariah and Kenneth Crouch. Mariah also discussed her new album, The Emancipation Of Mimi, talked about Oprah Winfrey's Legends Ball, and performed “We Belong Together.”
Mariah celebrated breaking the Elvis Presley record when “Touch My Body” became her eighteenth number one hit by sitting down with Oprah. She also opened the doors to her New York City apartment to reveal the secrets behind her new body and performed “Bye Bye.”
On September 18, 2009, the Chicago-based Oprah show travelled to New York City's Central Park's Summerstage for a live show. Mariah was one of the guests, and discussed her new album, Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel and her film Precious. She also performed the song “I Want to Know What Love Is.”
