Darren Criss and Jermaine Dupri faced off in a special “Mariah Carey Tribute” episode of the celebrity competition series Lip Sync Battle, which aired January 24, 2019 on Paramount Network. Jermaine opened the show with a performance of “Shake It Off” in true Mariah fashion — starting the performance in a bathtub full of pearls! Darren Criss lip-synced “Heartbreaker,” dressed in a full-on Mariah costume — head-to-toe, wig-to-heels. He rocked low-rise flared jeans and belly chain, then stopped midway through the performance to transform himself into Jay-Z for the rap verse.
For the closing performance, Jermaine and Darren were lip-syncing Mariah's “Emotions” when Mariah herself descended from above the stage on a giant butterfly swing and took the spotlight. In the end, Darren Criss took home the coveted Lip Sync Battle belt and accepted it on behalf of Mariah, who told him, “I think you wear it well, and you should definitely be champ all the time.”
