The lead single from the Glitter movie soundtrack, “Loverboy,” was originally meant to sample the song “Firecracker,” by the Yellow Magic Orchestra. Before Mariah's song was released, a female actress released a song using the same sample, which forced Mariah to re-work “Loverboy” entirely, adapting it to fit the song “Candy,” by Cameo. The original version of “Loverboy” was included on 2020's The Rarities compilation. “The long-lost original version of ‘Loverboy,’ before we had to change the sample and re-record the entire song,” Mariah wrote on the liner notes. “The full story is detailed in my memoir, in the chapter ‘Firecracker.’ ”
