Mariah wrote the song “Can You Hear Me” with Barry Mann during the Emotions recording sessions. It was included on her 2020 compilation The Rarities. “Working with the legendary Barry Mann was truly an honor,” Mariah wrote about the song. “We recorded this demo in the hopes that La Streisand (a.k.a. Babs) would perform it. That didn't happen, but I just recently unearthed this rarity — our writing demo — and wanted to share it with you!”
