Mariah included the song “Lead The Way,” written with Walter Afanasieff, on the Glitter movie soundtrack, released in 2001. “I actually started writing songs for this album prior to the movie getting green-lit, prior to me even submitting the first treatment,” Mariah told Total Access 24/7. “I wrote songs that I actually forgot about because it's been so long since I came up with the first idea that when I heard them again I was like, ‘This is perfect, and it really is the essence of the love story between Billie and Dice.’ There's a song called ‘Lead The Way’ that really makes the love story work and that's one of the first songs I wrote for the movie.”
Who would've believed
That you and me would fall
And land together
And who could've foreseen
In you I'd find the place
I've belonged forever
And if I move closer
Then love will take over
And lead the way
I'd given up hope
Losing the faith that love
Could be mine to treasure
And now
Nothing's the same
I found myself reborn
On the day I met you
And if we move closer
Then love will take over
And lead the way
Suddenly you are lying
Here with me and the truths
I used to hold have changed
And if I move closer
And let it take over
Then love will lead the way
And let it take over
Then love will lead the way
