“I Am Free” is a song from Mariah's 1995 Daydream album. “It is almost like a Gospel song and I'd really like to even hear one of my favorite Gospel singers cover it one day. I really like Vanessa Bell Armstrong or Twinkie Clark, The Clark Sisters… I just think there's so many possibilities for that song,” Mariah explained. “When I sang it in the studio I felt like it was almost like doing a live performance because it sort of took me into the mood of the song, it was very uplifting to me. When I listen to the vocal performance I get a really good feeling and thought that it was a true moment, kind of a very spiritual moment when I sang it.”
Once I was a prisoner
Lost inside myself
With the world surrounding me
Wandering through the misery
But now I am free…
You gave me a breath of life
Unclouded my eyes
With sweet serenity
Lighting a ray of hope for me…
And now I am free…
Free to live
Free to laugh
Free to soar
Free to shine
Free to give
Free to love
Free enough to fly
Once I was all so alone
Unsteady and cold
But your love rained down upon me
Washing away uncertainty
But now
I am free
