The song, which features rappers Busta Rhymes and Fabolous, was sent to radios and performed live on multiple occasions, but never saw an official release. “Growing up in New York, those songs were ingrained in my mind, just like ‘Genius of Love’.” Mariah said about covering the song. “The ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Life’ idea came because the character's love interest is a DJ. After the emotional experience that the movie takes you through, I wanted people to leave the theater and be able to feel like they can go to a party, too.”
