“Get Your Number” was released outside the United States as a single from The Emancipation Of Mimi in late September 2005. “‘Get Your Number’ is a song that I did with Jermaine Dupri, only this time, Jermaine is actually singing on the record which I never in my life would have expected that that was going to happen,” Mariah explained. “He was using it for his album and he had sung the hook and it's a loop of the song ‘Just An Illusion’ by a group called Imagination. When I heard it, he was like, ‘I want to hear you sing it over a loop,’ and I'm like, ‘Well okay. People always criticize me for singing loops, but alright, there's no other loops on the record basically. So alright, let's do it.’ When I started to resing the hook, it just didn't have the same quality as when Jermaine was singing it because obviously we have very different voices. So I made it into a duet where Jermaine is singing his part on the hook and I do the verses.”
In the United Kingdom, “Get Your Number” was released as a double-sided single with “Shake It Off,” becoming Mariah's twenty-third Top 10 hit on the Official Singles Chart, peaking at number nine during the week of October 15, 2005. On the Australian ARIA charts, “Get Your Number” spent two weeks in the Top 20, peaking at number nineteen on March 12, 2006.
The “Get Your Number” music video, directed by Jake Nava and filmed in September 2005 in Los Angeles, CA, features a guest appearance by actor Michael Ealy. MTV Europe went behind the scenes during the shoot and premiered the video on October 19, 2005. “The second thread that plays out through the video is the idea of Mariah sort of teasing this hot guy with one digit at a time of her number,” director Jake Nava explained. “Like a kind of treasure trail that she's leaving around the club.”
In Europe, the “Get Your Number” CD single was available in cardboard sleeve — including both “Get Your Number” and “Shake It Off.” The Enhanced CD Maxi Single also includes the previously-unreleased “Secret Love” and the “Get Your Number” music video.
Germany saw the release of the “Get Your Number” Single Pur — released in a slimline jewel case including the Atlantic Soul Radio Edit of “We Belong Together” as track 2.
In the United Kingdom, “Get Your Number” was released as a double-A side with “ Shake It Off” on October 3, 2005. The CD Single includes both songs, while the Maxi Single — released both on CD and 12" vinyl — also includes the song “Secret Love,” previously only available on the Japanese edition of The Emancipation of Mimi.
“Get Your Number” was released in Australia on February 27, 2006. The Maxi Single was identical to the European one, including “Get Your Number,” the Atlantic Soul Radio Edit of “We Belong Together,” the previously-unreleased “Secret Love” and the “Get Your Number” music video.
