“#Beautiful” is a collaboration with R&B singer Miguel included on the 2014 album Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse. “Miguel is one of my favorite new artists, he's just the truth.” Mariah told Grammy.com in 2013. “The best part of making music for me is collaborating and working with new people and fresh sounds. Miguel had a track that was amazing. [I told him] ‘We can get together, I can write a chorus that doesn't have to incorporate that and a verse that's very me and we can merge and come together and get that song to a place that's something totally different, fresh, unique and back to basics.’ ”
“She has so much foresight and she was all about the sound and it being different and standing out,” Miguel explained. “And I think that she's always been that way — she's always created music that's stood out. She's incredible. She's not only a beautiful spirit, inside and out, she's just really talented. I couldn't even fathom how creative she really is and how fast her mind works. The fact that she had so much vision — enough to want to do the record as it was — and include me, is a huge blessing and I appreciate it. She really is beautiful, absolutely, the title was fitting.”
“#Beautiful” was released as a single on May 6, 2013, and entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number twenty-four during the week of May 25, Mariah's ninth-highest of her forty-five chart entries. The song peaked at number fifteen on its fifth week, the highest position since 2009's “Obsessed,” which peaked at number seven. “#Beautiful” also became Mariah's twenty-seventh Top 10 hit on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, making Mariah the fourth female artist with most Top 10 entries of all time.
Mariah recorded new vocals for a “#Beautiful” remix which features rapper Jeezy, while A$AP Rocky jumped on another urban remix for the song. A Spanglish version of “#Beautiful,” titled “#Hermosa,” was also recorded. Additional remixes were produced by Louie Vega, Sidney Samson and Cazzette. On July 23, 2013, Mariah left a voice message on Soundcloud where she played a little snippet of a new dance remix she was working on. “I resung new vocals for a hot new dance remix that is coming your way very, very soon!” This remix, unfortunately, remains unreleased.

The music video for “#Beautiful” was directed by Joseph Kahn and premiered on American Idol on May 9, 2013. The video features the two singers flying down a country road on Miguel's motorcycle, and Mariah dancing under chandeliers in a barn while Miguel is sitting in a Porsche Speedster — which actually belonged to Mariah's father. An alternate cut of the music video, with the explicit version of “#Beautiful,” premiered on YouTube on May 29, 2013.
The music video for the Spanglish version of “#Beautiful” was filmed in Capri in June 2013. The clip, directed by Farah Khalid and Bill Boatman, premiered on Mariah's YouTube/Vevo channels on July 1, 2013.
A music video for the Young Jeezy remix of “#Beautiful” was being filmed at New York City's Avenue club in July 2013 when Mariah suffered a fall and had to be hospitalized with a shoulder injury. The clip, which was being directed by Nick Cannon, was never released.
