America: A Tribute to Heroes was a benefit concert created by the heads of the four major American broadcast networks (Fox, ABC, NBC and CBS) that was simultaneously broadcasted live on September 21, 2001, on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, UPN, The WB, PBS, Lifetime, Comedy Central, Court TV, Discovery Channel, HBO, The Learning Channel, Fox Family, FX, MTV, BET, E!, TNN, TNT, Univision and VH1 in an unprecedented show of unity in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in 2001.
Done in the style of a telethon, it featured a number of national and international entertainers performing to raise money for the victims and their families, particularly but not limited to the New York City firefighters and New York City police officers. Mariah performed “Hero” and also took part in the finale performance of “America the Beautiful.” America: A Tribute to Heroes was released on CD and DVD on December 4, 2001.
