Trey Lorenz

Trey Lorenz, one of Mariah's background singers, released his self-titled debut album on September 29, 1992. Mariah was very involved in the project, producing six of the album's eleven songs, as well as writing and singing background vocals on a few of them. “Trey is a really good friend of mine and he's one of the funniest people I've ever met in my life. He's so much fun to be around and he's really talented, so I was really into the project,” Mariah explained. “Trey came over and it became a Trey writing session instead. We just made the time to go in and do it. So many people had noticed Trey from ‘I'll Be There’ and we wanted people to remember him from that and have that excitement.“

The album's first single was “Someone To Hold,” which Mariah wrote, produced and sang background vocals on, it was released on August 27, 1992, peaking at number nineteen on the Billboard Hot 100. The second single, released on December 17, 1992, was “Photograph Of Mary,” which also featured Mariah on background vocals and production. The other songs on the album that feature Mariah singing background vocals are “Just To Be Close To You,” “Always In Love” (which was also written by Mariah) and “How Can I Say Goodbye.” She was also a co-producer on “It Only Hurts When It's Love.”

Lyrics

Someone To Hold

I was alone
Until you came and brought the sunshine
I was afraid
But in your love I found peace of mind
I was so blind
You opened my eyes and now I can see
I know that you understand me baby
You're all a woman should be

And it's you baby
That gets me to tomorrow
And it's you baby
That takes away my sorrow
When you lie close to me
In my heart I believe
We'll always be together
And there ain't nobody better
Our love will last forever
I finally found

Someone to hold
Girl you're my everything
To call my own
Every single day of my life
I'm not alone
You take me in and make me whole again

Whenever you smile
Oh baby my world is filled with laughter
I look in your eyes
And honey my heart and soul are captured
With the touch of your hand
You start a fire burning
And there'll never be another
Now that we've got each other

Oh girl You make my life seem brighter
'Cause you take me
And lift me up higher

Oh baby
Your loving feels so right
Takes my breath away
Every time you say
You'll love me for the rest of your life

Photograph Of Mary

I keep a photograph of Mary
I keep it lying by my bed
And every time I look up
I get so badly shook up
I wish that she were here instead

Gets so lonely without Mary
I can't get her off of my mind
And after all we've been through
I'll do whatever it takes to
Get her back into my life

Na na na na na na

I've got memories of Mary
I keep them all inside my head
If only I could find her
I would just remind her
Of all the good times that we had

Na na na na na na

What did I do to make her walk away
And leave me on my own
And I think I have the right
To know where we went wrong
'Cause I'll never get over you

I keep a photograph of Mary
I keep it lying by my bed
And every time I look up
I get so badly shook up
I wish that she were here instead

Just To Be Close To You

Just to be close to you
Girl
Just for a moment
Just for an hour
Just to be close to you
Girl

I've been out there
Searching so very long baby
Searching to find somebody
Just like you
And for some folks
It takes a lifetime
Sugar
To find in this world a dream come true

Just to be close to you
Girl
Just for a moment
Just for an hour
Just to be close to you
Girl

To give love
And be loved by you baby
To have your warm body
Close to mine
To whisper words
That make you feel
Like a woman
Girl I know our love
Will stand the test
Of time

Just to be close to you
Girl
Just for a moment
Just for an hour
Just to be close to you
Girl

Take my hand
We'll live in love forever girl
Take my hand
Girl we'll be alone just you and me

Take my hand
We'll spend our lives
Together, yeah
Together
Together

Just to be close to you
Girl
Just for a moment
Just for an hour
Just to be close to you
Girl

Just to be close to you
Girl
For the moment baby
For the moment baby
For the moment baby
For the moment baby
For the sugar
Sugar yeah yeah yeah…

Always In Love

Baby can I hold you one more time
Before we say our last goodbye
We've seen love grow now we watch as it dies
Baby why pretend and live a lie

Don't you know that we gave all we had
And we tried baby, but it just hurt so bad
So we loved and we lost everything that we had
Thought we'd always be in love

Just let me touch you that way once again
Remember how it was before it ends
Just for a moment please let's love again
Before we close the door and we can't get in

Don't you know that we gave all we had
And we tried baby, but it just hurt so bad
So we loved and we lost everything that we had
Thought we'd always be in love

And my heart is breaking that we ended up this way
How can I go on
How can I be strong
When my life and my love is gone

Don't you know that we gave all we had
And we tried baby, but it just hurt so bad
So we loved and we lost everything that we had
Thought we'd always be in love

It Only Hurts When It's Love

Through these tears I can see
What it was you meant to me
So blind to let you go
I guess I should have known

They say it only hurts when it's love
Hearts can only break if it's real
Since you've gone I know
What it is I feel, because
They say it only hurts when it's love

Every day I pretend
You'll come back to me again
But I gave that time away
I only kept the pain

Because it only hurts when it's love
A heart can only break when it's real
And since you've gone I know
What it is I feel, because
They say it only hurts when it's love

I had your trust
My pride came first
But was it worth
Your love…

They say it only hurts when it's love
My heart would only break if it's real
And since you've gone I know
What it is I feel, because
I see it only hurts when it's love
I can't believe the hurt
It couldn't get much worse
See it only hurts when it's love

Written by Trey Lorenz, Glen Ballard.

How Can I Say Goodbye

How can I say goodbye
How can I even try
Why can't I find a place
Where I don't see your face
How can I free my soul
When my heart won't let go
If what we had is gone
Why do I still hang on to you
You're a part of my life
Every night and every day
I keep tryin' to walk away

But how can I say goodbye
How do I live that lie
Tryin' to make believe
You're not a part of me
How do I wish you well
Riding love's carousel
Don't you know all the while
I'm just tryin' to find a smile for you
When I'm fallin' apart
Hide my tears when you're around
'Cause I don't wanna bring you down

I know there's a reason
You're fading away
But baby I don't have a clue

So how can I say goodbye
How can I say goodbye to you
