Mariah partnered with Elizabeth Arden for her debut fragrance, M by Mariah Carey, announced on July 2006 and released in mid-September 2007. “We are thrilled to begin this partnership with Mariah Carey,” Elizabeth Arden Chairman and Chief Executive Officer E. Scott Beattie said. “She is, unquestionably, a star of incredible magnitude. All over the world, people aspire to the values she represents. We look forward to launching an inspiring new global fragrance brand with Mariah that will be a timeless classic.”
“The inspirations for M by Mariah Carey were multiple places I've been, moments in my life and childhood memories,” Mariah explained. “It combines my favorite scents and means so much to me. I wanted my fragrance to be a gift to my fans.”
Mariah also collaborated on the bottle design, created in partnership with Jean Antretter. The glass cap is shaped like a butterfly alighting on the tips of the Tiare flower, and the neck is adorned with a silver roped collar. The outer carton echoes the silver and purple color scheme, complete with the initial “M” and a butterfly motif.
