MTV Japan presented Mariah with the Video Vanguard Award during their 2008 ceremony, held on May 31 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. “To me this award is about being in Japan for the eleventh time and being so grateful to the fans,” Mariah said during her speech. “Because the fans are the reason that I'm receiving this award tonight.”
