The Billboard Music Awards announced their Artist of the Decade Award during her 1999 ceremony, to mark the show's tenth year and the end of the decade. Mariah was chosen as the recipient of the accolade, among many other reasons, for holding the record for most weeks one single had ever held the No. 1 spot and for having more No. 1s than any other artist in history except for Elvis Presley and The Beatles.
