“Here We Go Around Again” is one of the songs from Mariah's original demo tape that remained unreleased until 2020, when it was included on the compilation The Rarities. “This was track #1 on my very first demo tape that has never before been shared with the world!” Mariah wrote on the liner notes. “I always liked it and did want it to be included on my first album. I don't remember why it wasn't, except we felt that we never quite captured the magic of that first demo. This recording is as close as we got.”
The song marked the first time Mariah worked with songwriting partner Ben Margulies. “It was this real Motown thing,” Margulies said. “She wrote all the verses out. We were excited because she sounded incredible. That was the beginning of the collaboration.”
Two limited edition “Here We Go Around Again” cassette singles, including the Original Version of “Loverboy” as the B-side, were commercially released in 2020: a purple edition, which was available only on Mariah Carey's online store, and a white edition, sold exclusively in Japan.
