Originally included on the Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel album as a solo version, a duet version of “Angels Cry” with R&B singer Ne-Yo was sent to Urban A/C radio on January 4, 2010. “Working with Mariah was a learning experience,” Ne-Yo said about their collaboration. “Her level of professionalism is almost double what mine is and the thing is, you won't expect it. Normally, when you see Mariah, you just see the glitz and the glamour, and she's a diva, she's fabulous… when it's time to work she focuses and gets the job done.”
“Angels Cry” was intended to be the lead single from Angels Advocate — a collection of remixed duets of songs from the Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel album. The project, with an announced release date of March 30, was never released.
Besides the Angels Advocate remix, the Jump Smokers produced two additional remixes of the song, one of them featuring an extra verse by Pitbull.

The music video for “Angels Cry” was directed by Nick Cannon and premiered on VEVO on January 28, 2010. “This video is going to be simplistically genius! No bells and whistles, just documenting history and brilliance,” Cannon said. “Two of the world's greatest song writers in the studio crafting a masterpiece. I hope the world is ready to hear ‘Angels Cry.’ ”
