Mariah performed in Japan during the first leg of her Daydream Tour in 1996. When the three concerts at the Tokyo Dome were announced, ticket sales broke all records and 150,000 tickets sold out in under an hour. Live At The Tokyo Dome was filmed live on the tour's opening night in front of 50,000 adoring fans. The show aired on TV in Japan and the live version of “Forever” was included on the song's CD single in 1996.
The live performance of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” was included as a bonus track on the Japan release of the Deluxe Anniversary Edition of Mariah's Merry Christmas, but the whole concert wasn't released until 2020, when it was included as CD 2 on Mariah's The Rarities compilation. 4K video of the whole concert was released on the Japanese edition of the album in an extra Blu-Ray disc. Live At The Tokyo Dome was made available on YouTube for a limited time and saw a digital release on December 7, 2021.
