Justin Bieber released his Christmas album, Under The Mistletoe, on November 1, 2011. The album includes a duet with Mariah on a cover of “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” “Mariah Carey is doing it with me! It's incredible. So excited,” Bieber told MTV. “We wanted Mariah from the beginning, but we kind of thought it was really hard, so we didn't really push the idea. But she's on my label, so we reached out to some people, she got in contact with us, and Randy Jackson was actually at the studio with us, and I was like, ‘Yo, you think you can help get Mariah on the Christmas album?’ And he was like, ‘I'm actually going to see her in New York on Monday,’ and I was like ‘Yo, go do that!’ ”
Mariah teamed up with Justin Bieber in New York City to shoot the video for their remake of Mariah's classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” on November 2, 2011. The duo shut down Macy's for the late-night shoot directed by Sanaa Hamri, who previously directed videos like “Crybaby” or “Thank God I Found You / Make It Last.” Mariah models a glamorous look inspired by a vintage animated Christmas card while Justin gets some Christmas shopping done.
